Packed with historical as well as architectural goodness... almost had me sending off for a 'pilgrim's passport' and following the 1,000-year-old route across the top of Spain to the rainy granite city of Santiago.
David Newnham, The Guardian

Architectural pilgrims are led expertly but without undue solemnity along The Road to Santiago de Compostela by Michael Jacobs.
Jonathan Keates, The Observer

This is a fully-illustrated guide to the remarkable architecture along the main pilgrim route through Spain to Santiago de Compostela in the north-west.

Established by the end of the 10th century, the route passes the churches, monasteries, cathedrals, hostels and hospitals associated with the pilgrimage as well as fine examples of Romanesque, Mozarabic, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and traditional folk architecture.

Michael Jacobs is widely regarded as one of the leading Hispanists of his generation. He is the author of Andalucía, Madrid for Pleasure and In the Glow of the Phantom Palace - all published by Pallas Athene. His books have been acclaimed both here and in Spain. He is as well known for his knowledge of the art and architecture of Spain as for his appreciation of the bars and restaurants of one of the great unknown cuisines of the West. He is currently Fellow in Hispanic Studies at the University of Glasgow.
